Laramie County Democrats Call For Solutions From Cheyenne’s City Government For Unhoused Community Members**

[Laramie County, October 12, 2023] - With the weather getting cooler and some forecasts calling for a particularly long and snowy winter, Laramie County Democrats respectfully ask the leaders of Cheyenne’s City Government to work toward long-term solutions for people experiencing homelessness in our state’s Capitol. We note the passage of an ordinance this past July establishing a curfew for homeless people encamped along Crow Creek. Sadly, deliberations on the ordinance skirted the larger issue of whether the ordinance would merely displace homeless people to other parts of the city without doing anything to solve the lack of affordable housing and adequate mental health and substance abuse services that underlie the homelessness issue.

Homelessness is an issue that belongs to every citizen in Cheyenne regardless of how easy it can be to avert one’s eyes. Indeed, many people in our community are just one serious health issue or job loss away from facing similar circumstances. With winter approaching, the disadvantaged in our community need more than hollow political victories that merely kick the can down the road and effectively say to the public, “we’re getting rid of this problem along Crow Creek and after that, we’re just going to avert our eyes.”

Laramie County Democrats call on the governing body to work diligently for the benefit of Cheyenne on real and lasting solutions for those in our city who suffer from homelessness and its causes.
